The Maltauna Apartment - located in Psaras, Messonghi in mid-southeast Corfu - is a 1st floor apartment with spectacular views of the garden, sea, and the mountains of mainland Greece and Albania. It has a balcony that faces the garden and sea, a queen-size bed in a separate bedroom, a single sofa bed, a full kitchen with all the basic amenities, and also a shower with toilet.
The Maltauna Apartment is part of a seafront property of rental apartments and studios, all of which are set within a vast garden that leads to a privately accessed pebbly beach with crystal clear waters. Guests thus have unparalleled private access to the crystalline sea for bathing and other water activities just a few steps from their rooms. The entire property was originally a point of sea transportation during the 1950s, used by locals to catch or disembark from boats that would take them to and from points around the island. A seafront kafeneion (coffee house) was also located at this site at that time.
The airy Maltauna Apartment is named after the mountain behind the property: Mt. Maltauna, which is unmarked on maps, and is a name that has been forgotten by all but the locals who use it. Mt. Maltauna’s wildness is reflected in the fact that it has not been climbed for a long time, and it is connected to Thalassa Garden by the stream that runs down it and flows into the sea next to the property. The apartment pays homage to this links with its handmade decorations created from locally sourced natural material, like driftwood and unique rocks.
You get stunning views of the sunrise from the queen-size bed in the Maltauna Apartment, as well as the beautiful colors of the sun as it falls behind the mountains of the west. You can also take in these spectacular displays of light from the apartment’s balcony and kitchen window.
The Maltauna Apartment is air-conditioned, and has a spacious and well-organised kitchen (with a bottle of olive oil from the family’s grove), and a bathroom with shower and toilet. In addition to the queen-size bed, there is also a single sofa bed.
